Short trip to Courtenay

We recently took a quick trip to Courtenay, BC to visit some friends.  I have been going through Courtenay for years on our way to the family vacation property further north.  Often only stopping to visit my aunt and uncle who lived nearby.  We never really stopped to smell the roses so to speak, so this was a nice little trip.  My first surprise was the Mad Chef Cafe which is an amazing restaurant not to be missed if you happen to find yourself there.

It is a very funky place with amazing food.  I had the best Oyster burger I have ever had, and I have had a few amazing ones.  The staff were very friendly and made the dining experience all the more enjoyable.  Great place to take the kids.  One tip though is that if you are going for dinner, it is probably best to try and make reservations.

The other surprise was the Riverway walk around the airport.  It was a beautiful walk, very nicely maintained.  There is even a great playground for the kids at one point.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn which backs on to this amazing walking trail so it it something not to be missed if you stay there.  The hotel also has a great indoor pool with a huge waterslide for the kids.
